Families with children
Children's festivals get the biggest response in the diaspora channels. The children's Sabantuy in Berlin is the most-read post in two years. And in Germany people are delighted by children who speak pure Tatar.
- Children's games at Sabantuy: sack races, tug of war, and smashing a pot blindfolded.
- Tukay for little ones: "Shüräle", "Su anasy", "Käjä belän saryk".
- Tatar cartoons and songs at home — the easiest place to start.

For our Dutch neighbours
Who are the Tatars?
The Tatars are a Turkic people. Their heartland is Tatarstan, a republic on the Volga with Kazan as its capital. Tatars live all over the world, including the Netherlands: from Amsterdam and The Hague to Rotterdam and Friesland.
We have our own language, Tatar, a rich literature led by the poet Gabdulla Tukay, and a cuisine you'll fall in love with straight away. Try the triangular echpochmak or the honey-sweet chak-chak.
Every summer we celebrate Sabantuy, the festival of the plough: with games, sack races, tug of war, music and food. Everyone is welcome — neighbours, colleagues and friends too.
